Connectivity SAP-ABAP to XLS

From SAPmee we want to present the SAP ABAP to XLS connectivity service. This service allows us to work from SAP as if it were Excel, that is, in a much simpler and more dynamic way.

Thanks to the SAP-ABAP to XLS connectivity we can interact with SAP transactions directly within the Excel spreadsheet. This avoids the copy/paste process that can lead to errors when filling in Excel spreadsheets or manually updating data, creating inefficiencies and lost productivity.

SAP-MS Excel connectivity extends SAP data to Microsoft Excel using an SOA-based information delivery server and Microsoft Office add-ins.

With this connectivity we will gain the following:

  • Save time and release resources by entering data directly into the system efficiently.
  • Free employees from tedious tasks, so they can focus on their business processes and analysis.
  • Manage data more effectively.
  • Automation of processes that would otherwise have to be done manually and therefore take a long time.

Benefits of using SAP in Microsoft Office applications

  • Eliminates the copy-paste based data collection mechanism from SAP to Microsoft Excel.
  • It allows users to get real-time data from SAP within Excel with a single click on ‘Refresh’.
  • Allows users to update SAP from Excel.
  • Avoid any data integrity issues with the copy and reduce compliance issues.

This SAP-ABAP connectivity process with XLS will also benefit managers, mainly production and logistics, who wish to create Excel reports from the latest SAP data. Also, from analysts who want to combine data from SAP and other enterprise data warehouses for budgeting purposes.

How does it work?

The operation of the SAP-ABAP to XLS connectivity is very simple. Within the MS Excel file, we will create a user interface in an Excel sheet to enter data for the master and output client cells. Immediately afterwards, we apply the ABAP code to make the connection with SAP. We can then read the input data for the customer master from the Excel sheet files and get data from SAP using the SAP connection code.

Another working scenario is to create a function module in ABAP that is “Remote Enabled”, within which we create the IMPORT, EXPORT and TABLES parameters according to the MS Excel requirements. With that done, we write logic to display the customer master details based on the input from the excel file and activate the functions module.
